Life can be super busy these days and without focus, sometimes our yoga routine can fall off the priority list. If this happens for a few weeks or more, it can be all too easy to tell yourself that it’s too late to catch up, or you’ll have lost all those flexibility gains you had made so there’s no point restarting. If this sounds familiar, then here’s our top tips to get you back on the mat and back into a healthy routine.
1. Be Kind To Yourself
Drop any expectation of how you used to be at yoga, acknowledge that your health, fitness and flexibility go through cycles of consistency and its time to get back into it gently.
2. Book Classes Ahead of Time
Failing to plan is planning to fail as the old saying goes. If you want to recreate a habit, you are going to need to take concious action to make it happen. The first step is to get your diary out, and the timetable and book some classes. Don’t go crazy, start slowly again with 1-2 over the next 7 days, then build the frequency.
3. Invite someone to join for your yoga practise
Nothing creates accountability like an agreement with someone. So ask your friend to meet you in the park with their mat or book into the same class at a studio together and go for a drink together afterwards.
4. Appreciate the journey
The joy of coming back to yoga after a break and starting to feel great again can be one of the best bits of the whole process.
