Meet the wonderful Bev. Taking her health into her own hands Bev has been diligently attending both upstairs and downstairs classes since Jan and has been feeling amazing for it. We absolutely love it when people decide to make a change and then go full pelt into it with enthusiasm and joy. We believe approaching classes with this mindset skyrockets results when compared to the approach of attending the same classes with the mindset that they are something to be ticked off todays ‘To Do’ list as if it were a chore. We love your energy and warmth Bev!

We want to get to know you better. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself:

I sat opposite Hugh Grant at a wedding

Ouu, a real-life ‘Four Wedding’ moment! Do you have any funny stories related to fitness?

Twenty years ago I taught yoga (nothing like the standard of EfL) at Virgin Records near the canal in west London. One day during savasana a great big goose leaped onto the window level and started banging with his beak and flapping his huge wings against the window. I tried to say ‘and incorporate all noises into your relaxation’ or some such nonsense but we all ended up getting the giggles.

And tell us about you…

I was a Media Manager for international humanitarian charities and am now full time carer for our disabled daughter. I’ve had my bottom on a meditation cushion on and off for 30 years and am deeply grateful for that.

What have you been interested in lately?

Snails and how the hell you get rid of them as kindly as possible. I can’t bear to jump on them, don’t like the slow death of other methods and take them for drives to rehome them but worry that’s unleashing them on other people which isn’t right. What the hell to DO?

Calling anyone with Snail knowledge to report to Bev please! So, any good reads lately?

Stephen Fry’s Troy, Mythos and Heroes are brilliant. Very excited about the new Philip Pullman. I also love a Marian Keyes.

Whats your film or series recommendations?

Grace and Frankie. Grace and Frankie. Grace and Frankie. And I’m a Throner.

What’s your number one spot to sit in Brighton?

The Beach by Maroccos in Hove, with a big coffee. Because it makes me feel lucky.

What’s your favourite Brighton eatery and why?

Well we don’t get out much due to caring for our disabled teenager. When we do it’s Anatolia in Kemp Town. Fabulous food, dynamite cocktails and staff are fascinating conversationalists.

And lastly, what do you like most about EfL?

I love that most days there is a class I can go to and I can trust absolutely in the quality of the teaching. And I’m really fussy! I really love the progress I’m seeing. Last week in yoga the detail around aligning hips and ribs really helped me, as well as the slight change in feet position for crescent lunge. And learning how to properly do squats whilst holding a weight in the gym has also been fundamental for me. I am stronger and happier than I was before joining.
